Beuflox Vet bolus - Ciprofloxacin

Description

Ciprofloxacin a member of Fluoroquinolone and shows bactericidal activity and powerful bactericidal effect by inhibiting DNA-gyrase which is responsible for the supercoiling of DNA. It is a time tested broad-spectrum antibiotic.

Indications

For the treatment of digestive & respiratory infections caused by Actinobacillus, Pasteurella, Streptococcus, Bordetella, and for diarrhea caused by E.coli, Salmonella susceptible to Ciprofloxacin. It is also used in Enterotoxaemia, skin, bone & ear infections, Anthrax, uterine infections, udder infections, and urinary tract infection.

Dosage & Administration

Cattle, calf & goat: ½-1 bolus/100-200 kg body weight or 5 mg/kg body weight twice daily for 3-5 days.

Side Effects

Ciprofloxacin is a time tested and clinically well-tolerated antibiotic. However, common reactions may be seen as Central Nervous System (CNS) toxicity; Gastrointestinal reactions; Hematuria; Hepatotoxicity; Hypersensitivity reactions; Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (blistering, itching, peeling, or redness of the skin), diarrhea.s.

Precautions

It should be used with caution in animals or poultry with suspected or known CNS disorders.

Use in Pregnancy & Lactation

Intravenous doses of Ciprofloxacin of up to 20 mg/kg of body weight in pregnant rats and mice have not shown evidence of maternal toxicity, embryotoxicity, or teratogenic effects. Ciprofloxacin can be distributed into milk, sometimes at a higher concentration than in plasma, but it is not known under which conditions it occurs.

Drug Interaction

Ciprofloxacin administered together with theophylline can lead to elevated blood levels of theophylline. It may also interfere with caffeine metabolism.

OverDose

Overdose of Ciprofloxacin may result in reversible renal toxicity.
